Holiday lighting · Getting ready
Getting your home ready for install day.
To get ready for holiday light install day, make sure you have a working outdoor outlet, a spot for the timer, clear access to the areas being lit, pets kept away from the work area, and a check of any HOA rules. The details are below.
-
A working outdoor outlet
Lights run from an outdoor outlet, usually a GFCI outlet with Test and Reset buttons. Plug something in to make sure it works. If it has tripped, press Reset. If an outlet keeps tripping or doesn't work, tell us before install day; we'll plan around it, and an electrician may be needed for outlet repairs.
-
A spot for the timer
We set the lights on a timer so they come on and go off by themselves. Think about which outlet is most convenient and where you'd like the timer to sit, and let us know if you have a preference for the on and off times.
-
Clear access
We need room to set up ladders along the walls and to reach the areas being lit. Please move cars out of the driveway if we're lighting the garage, and clear patio furniture, planters or decorations from under the rooflines. Unlock gates to any side or back yard we're working in.
-
Pets
Please keep pets inside or away from the work area while we're there. Gates and doors may be open during the install.
-
HOA rules
If your neighborhood has an HOA, check its rules on holiday lighting, such as dates, colors or where lights may go. Share anything relevant with us before we finalize your design.
-
What to expect on install day
- We arrive on your scheduled date and walk the plan with you if you're home. If you won't be, tell us ahead of time so we can confirm access to the outlets and areas being lit.
- We hang the lights to your approved design and set the timer.
- We test everything before we leave, and let you know when we're done.
- If the weather isn't safe for roof or ladder work, we'll call you to reschedule.
